Browns – Jean Michel Basquiat Collaboration

We were so happy to be approached by the creative team at luxury fashion boutique Browns to work with them on a pop-up shop in their South Molton Street store for their collaboration with iconic artist the late Jean-Michel Basquiat, in conjunction of the exhibition of his work showing at The Barbican..

The team came to us with their design concept and Hello Flamingo set about building it!

Two windows were partially blacked out, painted by our very own director Paula, the centre of the windows were left and exposed enlarged prints of the artist work – along with garments from the collaborative collection.

Large paper prints filled other windows, with hand sketches and notes and plinths and windows had the highly recognisable ‘crown’ and ‘SAMO’ logos.

A giant replica of the Mona Lisa, altered by Basquiat, hung in a window, with bespoke props (skate ramp, plinth, ball) which held product, including a Mona Lisa emblazoned skateboard.

A wall of block printed cavasses, some with the crown logo and others with the statement ‘SAMO for the so-called Avant Garde’, as well as TV screen playing videos – advertising the product.

The instore pop-up had bill-postered walls and resting block colour canvasses along with garments hanging from the walls. In the centre of the room 5 yellow plinths, each going up in height, with vinyl logos, held product, with a red ‘skate ramp’.

The collaboration was incredible and we were so excited to be a part of it – the visual impact was amazing!
